Change the engine oil regularly
So far, I only have been writing about my car or my family’s car. Today, I will write
about a car owned by a friend of us.
This is an engine for Daihatsu Mira 69,000km. Our friend owns the car and she
has not changed the engine oil for some time. When she has visited us, I noticed
the engine was making some unusual noise.
You can notice the engine oil is leaking between the black top cover and the cam block. Due to the clogged blow-by line, the accumulated air at the crankcase has broken the gasket between them. The reason why the clogging was caused was very simple. The photos below are telling you the reason.
You see there is too much sludge and the brown colored cam shaft and others.
The sludge blocked the blow-by line and this caused the internal air pressure at
the crankcase too high and this affected the cam block too. Another reason why
the blocking was caused was the design issue of the engine. As I search the Net,
there are many other similar troubles here.
As the result, the air came out breaking the gasket between the cam block and
the top cover. The sludge also was accumulated at the throttle body too. I
needed clean it too as well as replacing the gasket.
Below is the gasket used. Although it was made of rubber, it was like a
plastic. The heatcyle caused the problem, I think but I dare say the material was
not good enough for this application.
