Key-less remote commander
The key-less remote commander for my family's Caldina has been missing
and we needed a new one. Asking a dealer to sell and program the car
is a general idea. But I love junks and I don't try such a simple and easy but
expensive way. I succeeded to buy a remote commander at Yahoo Auction.
The seller was clearly claiming that it was sold as a junk. The expression “junk”
would not attract people but I am a man who is very much attracted. No one
had bid it and I succeeded to get it without paying any extra money. It was
just 500 Yen. To pay 500 Yen for a junk is not always smart enough but if
succeeded to use, it sure is cool and inexpensive too. Compared with the
quote by the dealer, it was less than 1/ 50th but you have to be skilled to
repair the commander and program the car all by yourself.
The RF energy observed
I have checked the commander using my old CRT type spectrum analyzer
bought at Akihabara several years ago as a junk but succeeded to fix. As I
have checked the commander, the signal was intermittent especially the lock
button seldom worked. After pushing the buttons for more than 20 times,
both “lock” and “unlock” were working stable. It radiated the energy every time
I pushed the buttons as is shown above. Only the contact points of the switches
were contaminated and the repetition of use cleaned the points, I could imagine. The carrier frequency is about 312.3MHz and the signal level is 82dBuV caught
at the center of a full wave length loop antenna. It is just the Near Field and the
signal was that strong. Actually the signal level is exactly the same as the signal
from other car's key-less commander for a Celsior's.
What I needed to do next was to program. I searched the Net but I could not
find any information for Caldinas. But this car is called Avensis in Europe and
Oceania and I searched the Net only to pick up sites written in English with
keywords “Avensis” and “remote” and “program”. What I found was this.
Different methods were written there and I have no idea which one is effective
and correct for Japanese domestic model Caldina. I found the effective method
was as below.
1. Get in drivers seat leaving door opened and key NOT in ignition
2. Insert key into ignition and remove
3. Press the door lock - unlock button (on door panel switch gear) 5 times

(40 secs max)
4. Close drivers door then open it
5. Press lock - unlock button 5 times again
6. Insert key into ignition
7. Turn ignition key from 'lock' to 'on' ONCE (no more as you can wipe all codes)
8. Remove key from ignition
9. The central locking should now start locking and unlocking on it's own
10. Within 20 secs press and hold the remote 'lock' switch for more than 1
4. Close drivers door then open it
5. Press lock - unlock button 5 times again
6. Insert key into ignition
7. Turn ignition key from 'lock' to 'on' ONCE (no more as you can wipe all codes)
8. Remove key from ignition
9. The central locking should now start locking and unlocking on it's own
10. Within 20 secs press and hold the remote 'lock' switch for more than 1
second
11. Once more if the receiver has received the signal the door locks should

13 Press and hold the 'lock' button on remote for more than 1 second.

After doing above items, I succeeded to register the code and now the remote
commander is working perfectly.
People say,”You are lucky that you can fix different kinds of products from
electronics to automobile”. But they didn't know that I have spent a lot of time
and have done big efforts to get the skill. I now can fix almost everything and
after fixed, I give them people around me. But long time ago, I failed most of
the time. “When it's not fixed, I get lonely. I can't talk, I can't eat, I can't breath”
were my situations. When I heard a song “It's Only Christmas” sung by Ronan
Keating and Hayley Westenra for the first time. I found the words in the lyrics
are related me a lot. “When it's cold, I get lonely. I can't talk, I can't walk, I can't
breath” are deeply so although the song might be singing about a man and a
